Music makes the world go round. I truly believe this. If it weren't for music, my life would have turned out very differently.

Because, musically, I am stuck in a rut, I enjoy a lot of Alternative music from the '90s. These bands include Third Eye Blind, Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox 20.

The other main area of music I enjoy is Pop-Punk. This is more upbeat , commercial punk music. A few bands that represent this genre are The Starting Line, Homegrown and Fall Out Boy.

My goal is to expand musical horizon's everywhere and help people realize that it is alright to enjoy listening to J-Zay and then want to turn on some Dashboard Confessional.

Regina Spektor shakes up U.S.

About 2 or 3 weeks ago I purchased the Regina Spektor CD. I wasn't really into her music the first time I heard it. I remember, when I had a meal plan on campus, we were forced to watch mtvU on every television. I remember seeing this really weird video with a woman painting a man or something. The song was "Fidelity" by Regina Spektor. My friends and I would always make fun of the lyrics because she sang them in an interesting/ridiculous way.

As time progressed, I began to love her music. I listened to it on and off and told myself I needed to get her CD. I love buying CDs because I feel like, with CDs, you better understand an artist's full body of work.

Well, Spektor's CD is a slam dunk. I bought the CD titled, "Begin to hope." Right down to the thank you's in the back of the booklet, the CD was one that really touched my heart.

From the beginning of the CD when she says "shake it up," Spektor's music is perfect for the person that likes to get lost in their thoughts.

Her music is the kind that someone can listen to while staring out of a window at the rain with songs like, "Fidelity" and "Summer in the City." On the other hand, someone can dance happily around their room with songs like "That Time" and "On the Radio."

Her CD really touched my heart in more ways than I expected. So if you can open your mind and your soul, you may really shake it up with Regina Spektor.

Bowling for Soup never goes out of style

I recently rediscovered the band Bowling for Soup. This band is based out of my home-state of Texas. I've listened to them on and off since high school, but, because of my boyfriend Johnathon, I got a hold of the CD and haven't stopped listening to it since.

With a sound similar to New Found Glory, I'm sure everyone has heard their big hit, "Girl All The Bad Guys Want." It was one of the few songs I heard from them when I was in high school. It is a fun, silly song that makes you laugh out loud. It comes from their 2002 album "Drunk Enough To Dance."

Besides this album, Bowling for Soup has six other albums for music lovers to enjoy. So I suggest you pick up one from your local discount CD store so you can jump on the Bowling for Soup bandwagon.
